CITGO Case Study
CITGO’s larger than life 60’ X 60’ sign majestically stands over the city of Boston and Fenway Park, one of many landmarks Bostonians claim as their own. The first sign, featuring the Cities Service logo, was built in 1940, and replaced with the trimark in 1965. The CITGO sign contained more than five miles of neon tubes, 5,878 glass tubes to be exact, and was lit by 250 high-voltage transformers. The giant advertisement survived five hurricanes. In 2010, CITGO decided to have the sign completely updated and re-imaged, using new LED lighting and animation electronics. The sign went dark for several months in the summer while the work took place.
Amid much cheering, horn honking and fanfare, the famous landmark sign was relit September 17, 2010 during the seventh inning of the Red Sox vs. Toronto baseball game. Fans couldn’t get enough photos of “their sign”. The animation sequence is still exactly as it has been for many years. Working together, we accomplished the goal set by our customer. Federal Heath continues to provide maintenance for the sign.
