Signs Are a Major Part of Any Business Strategy

As we move into 2017, the outlook is good for signage. A recent survey of over 1000 decision makers found that 83% consider signs, graphics, digital screens and visual communications displays a major part of their marketing strategy.

Signs have been around for centuries, but one of the most important benefits they have provided over the last century is still very relevant today: first impressions are everything. Even though many of today’s top brands stay on the cutting-edge of digital technology, it’s still the easily identifiable signs, such as the yellow Shell pectin, the Target bulls-eye or the Chili’s red pepper logo for example, that draw customers into these businesses.

The shape and overall appearance of signs affects impressions and credibility as well. Over 98% of those surveyed said a well-maintained sign is important; most shoppers are less likely to patronize a business whose signage is in
poor condition.

In fact, most of the survey participants named exterior signage as the second most important resource for advertising a business, just after having a company website. Signs and visual communications, both traditional pylon and monuments and new digital screens, interact with the basic human instincts of recognition and identification.
